With ceilings adorned with hops, nooks and crannies, wing backed chairs and welcoming fireplaces, the Black Horse Inn offers a truly perfect setting for a meal with friends, a special occasion, or a romantic meal with your loved one. Tucked away in the north downs as it is, the Black Horse Inn is still only a stones throw from Maidstone, and definitely worth taking the short trip out into the countryside.
The emphasis at the Black Horse is on quality food, all locally sourced, from high quality suppliers, the meat in fact being delivered from a butcher only a mile down the road. The theme for the food is varied, an excellent selection of traditional English dishes in keeping with the traditional countryside location of the Inn, which also offer excellent value for money. The restaurant also offers an exciting selection of a la carter dishes and regularly changing specials, to keep the offering fresh and varied. The restaurant menu will really get your tastebuds going, and all of the dishes are lovingly prepared onsite by our talented brigade of trained chefs.
An 18th Century Inn, the Black Horse Inn has been a refuge, providing a welcome rest, food and sustenance, and more importantly watering weary travellers for hundreds of years. The selection of ale and wine is second to none, and testament to many years of experience providing excellent hospitality.
The ale and wine offering at the Black Horse, has a similar ethos to the food. To use locally sourced suppliers, Brewers and wineries to provide a wide and varied selection of products that are able to stand up against more mainstream competitors.
Alongside main stream brands such as Peroni, Heineken and Becks on the bar, Curious Brew from Chapel Down winery in Tenterden is offered as a lager alternative. This is a delight: crisp, dry and refreshing. Having this on the bar really stands the Black Horse Inn apart from others locally. The ‘infamous’ Biddenden Cider is also available on the bar and at 8% abv is not for the faint hearted. Definitely for a bed and breakfast guest!
The Black Horse Inn also offers one of the best selections of real ale in Maidstone. With 4 hand pumps offering an excellent variety of local ales from the Whitstable Brewery, Westerham Brewery, Old Dairy Brewery and Musket Brewery, to more countrywide ales from further afield like Sharp’s Brewery, Adnams Brewery, Fullers, and Wells and Youngs. There is something for everyone.
The extensive wine list covers all needs and tastes but also adds some local variety with the addition of several award winning English wines, also from Chapel Down on the Weald of Kent. There is a wine to match all of the food on the menu, including a selection of ports and dessert wine.
